Latin singer-songwriters Mau y Ricky have launched a new independent label venture called Why Club Records in partnership with Warner Music Latina.
The duo are listed on the roster and will continue to be managed by Armando Lozano, who has supported the Venezuela-born and Miami-based Latin Grammy-nominated artists since their first placement and as fresh Warner Latina signees in the early 2010s. They’ve co-written plenty of radio hits for artists like Karol G, Ricky Martin, Maluma and Anitta, with one of their biggest being the Hot 100-charting “Sin Pijama” for Becky G and Natti Natasha.
Mau y Ricky’s long-term day-to-day manager, Neus Borrell, is set to take on the role of managing director of Why Club Records. Roberto Andrade, managing director over at Warner Latina, said in a statement: “Mau y Ricky have long been at the forefront of today’s pop sound, pioneering new musical paths and pushing boundaries; never ceasing to surprise. We are thrilled to welcome them to Warner Music Latina and are honored to be a part of their journey. Their musical and artistic sensitivity strongly enriches our ecosystem of talents.”
Mau y Ricky have also announced their first single on their new label “Vas a Destrozarme,” will be released on Oct. 5. The track is the first off their upcoming album, “Hotel Caracas,” for which they recruited producer Malay (Frank Ocean, Lorde, Fletcher) and multiplatinum artist JP Saxe, as well as longtime collaborator JonTheProducer. The new LP is set to be their “boldest, brightest, and biggest statement yet,” according to the signing announcement.
“We are very happy to start this new stage as owners of our music together with a group of incredible people that we admire a lot,” said Mau y Ricky. “This is the beginning of an alliance that, God willing, will lead us to fulfill our dreams. We trust [Alejandro] Duque and [Roberto] Andrade as the ideal partners for this new stage. We are working on the most important album of our career so far.”
Alejandro Duque, president of Warner Latina added, “Mau y Ricky are trailblazers in the music industry, and we’re honored to welcome them to the Warner Music Latina family. This collaboration represents a fusion of creativity, talent, and a shared commitment to pushing boundaries in Latin music.”
